It’s been said that “radio never leaves your blood.” And even though I have been out of radio longer than I was in it, nothing can be further than the truth.

Even in today’s “radio climate,” I’m still a fan. So, when the opportunity earlier this year to resurrect my Mr. Romance persona from my time at KEZN-FM in Palm Springs came around, I didn’t hesitate to jump at it.

In addition to my weekday show on 97 Lite FM, I have created a new weekend show called Mr. Romance’s Top 10 Countdown Show going back in time and playing the 10 biggest hits from this week’s Adult Contemporary chart from a past year.

The Adult Contemporary Chart

The Adult Contemporary chart is published weekly by Billboard magazine and lists the most popular songs on adult contemporary radio stations in the United States. The chart is compiled based on airplay data submitted to Billboard by stations that are members of the Adult Contemporary radio panel. The chart debuted in Billboard magazine on July 17, 1961.

Over the years, the chart has gone under a series of name changes, being called Easy Listening (1961–1962; 1965–1979), Middle-Road Singles (1962–1964), Pop-Standard Singles (1964–1965), Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks (1979–1982) and Adult Contemporary (1983–present).

Joel Whitburn’s Billboard Top Adult Contemporary

Billboard Top Adult Contemporary 1961-2001 by Joel Whitburn

No one was more happier than I was when I found a used copy of Joel Whitburn’s Billboard Top Adult Contemporary 1961-2001. Granted, I could have just looked up the information on Wikipedia, but there’s something about having a physical book in your hands and flipping through the pages that so gratifying!

Debut Show

Each week, I’ll share pop culture, trivia and all your lite hits that might just bring back some memories or maybe you’ll discover some new soft rock favorites. The weekend of March 12, 2022, the debut show was released spotlighting the the Top 10 chart from the week of March 8, 1980 featuring hits by Barry Manilow, Air Supply and Chuck Mangione.

Mr. Romance’s Top 10 Countdown Show airs Saturday nights at 7 pm with an encore presentation Sunday mornings at 10 am (Pacific Time) on at 97 Lite FM plus anytime on demand.
