Last year’s The Society Of Voice Arts And Sciences™ (SOVAS™ ) That’s Voiceover Career Expo was so worthwhile, I knew I had to attend again this year. The annual three day virtual event was held the weekend of November 19, 2021. Here’s a wrap up of just a few of the highlights as posted daily from my LinkedIn feed:
Joan Baker, Rudy Gaskins and Marc Guss put together a MIND EXPLODING group of panelists made up of some of voiceover’s best demo producers/coaches: Chuck Duran, Cliff Zellman, Donna Grillo, J. Michael Collins and Mary Lynn Wissner.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Don’t take shortcuts. Do it right the first time.
Wow! What a motivating and inspiring way to end the day.
Michael starred in all seven Police Academy movies, Spaceballs (to name just two) and lately as a finalist on America’s Got Talent. And I recently saw him when he guest starred on The Love Boat during my binge this past Summer. (Yes, I admit to watching all 10 seasons! )
Thank you, Michael, for sharing your talents with us and making the breaks so enjoyable!
Backstage Vanguard Award for Arts and Communication
Day 2 of the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences That’s Voiceover Career Expo was filled with INSPIRATION as preeminent voice coach Denise Woods received the Backstage Vanguard Award for Arts and Communication presented by Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actor, Mahershala Ali. Denise was honored for her extraordinary accomplishments and pioneering dedication. ⚡️AND THEN…we were treated to a truly awe-inspiring conversation between Denise and Mahershal.
The final day of That’s Voiceover Career Expo kicked off in ROCKSTAR fashion hosted by casting director and acting coach Terry Berland with guests Tina Morasco, Head of Casting at Sound and Fury and Robin Armstrong, director, producer and voiceover coach.
I easily filled up a page and half of notes as they shared their Industry expertise. I loved when Tina reminded us to “Be the best version of yourself” and then Robin completed the quote with “and then let it go.” Now THAT’S some #voiceover brilliance!
