National Radio Day, held every August 20th, is a time for communities across the country to celebrate radio with the goal to strengthen the radio ecosystem, highlighting all kinds of radio.
This year, I pay homage to the first commercial station I worked for at the young age of 16: WSEX 92.7 FM. Despite the call letters, we weren’t allowed to say W-SEX or even reference the word. And when George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex” came out…yep, scrubbed from the playlist! But from a radio station marketing stand point: BRILLIANT! And as you can imagine, it was a fun station to work for and a great era to have been in radio.
